Elevating Our Ritual: Why We Refined Our Signature Facial Oil

If you’ve been following our journey at The Natural State Skincare Co., you know that we don’t believe in adding ingredients just for the sake of a long label. We believe in "lean" skincare—where every single drop in the bottle serves a distinct purpose.

Recently, I went back to the formulation bench to look at our beloved facial oil. While our signature blend of comforting herbs has always been wonderful, I knew we could make it work even harder for your skin.

By marrying our time-tested whole botanicals with a few powerful new ingredients, we’ve elevated this formula into something truly special. Here is an inside look at why we updated our recipe, and how our classic ingredients and new additions work together in perfect harmony.

Honoring Our Classics, Introducing New Powerhouses

Our original formulation was anchored in a beautiful, skin-loving blend of whole herbs that you already know and love: Calendula, Chamomile, Red Rose petals, Dandelion root, Green Tea, and Cucumber. These plants have always been the heart of our infusion, providing a gentle, refreshing, and comforting base that respects the skin barrier.

To elevate this trusted foundation, we introduced two incredible new botanical extracts into the infusion mix:

• Centella Asiatica: Often called Gotu Kola, this ancient herb is a favorite in modern skincare for its remarkable ability to support a calm, smooth, and deeply resilient complexion.
• Ginkgo Biloba: We chose Ginkgo to work alongside our classic green tea and cucumber. It is fantastic for helping the skin look revitalized, balanced, and vibrant.

By infusing these raw, dried plant leaves directly into our oils, we capture their properties at the source, creating a much richer, more concentrated base than traditional liquid extracts could ever provide.

The Power of Coffee: A Dual Approach

One of the most exciting updates to this formula is how we capture the essence of coffee. We wanted this oil to feel truly energizing to the senses, so we developed a two-step method using both light-roast and green coffee.

First, we infuse espresso-fine light-roast coffee grounds directly into our base oils alongside our herbs. This gives the oil its warm, comforting aromatic profile.

To take it a step further, we added Green Coffee Bean Oil and Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) during the final stage of crafting. While roasted coffee provides that beautiful sensory experience, cold-pressed green coffee bean oil retains its raw, nutrient-dense qualities. When paired with CoQ10—a vital nutrient that naturally occurs in our skin but diminishes as we age—this duo helps protect the skin from environmental stressors and promotes a firm, glowing appearance.

A Custom Trio of Lightweight Base Oils

To make sure these incredible botanicals feel amazing on your skin, we refined our base carrier oils percentages. We wanted an oil that deeply nourishes without ever feeling heavy, greasy, or pore-clogging.

We continued with our trio of High-Oleic Sunflower, Jojoba, and Meadowfoam seed oils. Together, these three oils create a silky, lightweight texture that absorbs beautifully, leaving behind nothing but a soft, healthy satin finish.

Patience in a Bottle: The Finishing Touch

Because we use such fine, potent botanical and coffee powders, we had to reinvent how we finish the oil to ensure it is crystal-clear.

After a patient, slow cold-infusion process, the oil undergoes a 48-hour cold-crash (where we drop the temperature to let the tiniest plant particles naturally settle to the bottom) followed by a double-filtration process. It takes extra time and precision, but it ensures that the final product is flawless and sediment-free.

This updated formulation isn't a departure from who we are—it’s the ultimate expression of it. It’s a thoughtful blend of traditional herbal wisdom and targeted modern ingredients, crafted slowly to give your skin exactly what it needs to thrive.
